[Geoserver-users] WPS Performance/Loading Tuning

Hi list,

I am doing a performance and loading tests on WPS servers. I use JMeter to
send 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, and 128 concurrent requests and record response
time, server throughput, and failure rate.
The problem is that GeoServer WPS cannot handle more than one concurrent
request. I have two questions:

1- Do I need to change its settings or configuration to make it durable for
loading test? If so, what should be done?

2- Do you have any suggestion how to tune GeoServer WPS for both performance
and loading tests?

Software version: GeoServer 2.2, Tomcat 7, Java 1.7

Thanks in advance,
Ebrahim

Hmm... this issue supposedly got resolved in 2.1.4 onwards:
http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-5088

What is the max number of concurrent synch requests you configured in the
WPS panel?

Cheers
Andrea

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for the quick reply. I did not touch any settings or configurations. You mean I need to increase the number of max requests in wps.xml (maxSynchronousProcesses and maxAsynchronousProcesses)? Are there other tips you can give me, such as changing Tomcat settings, or other changes in GeoServer configuration?

Thanks in advance,
Ebrahim

Yes. Let me know if that fixes your issue. By the way, why are you using
such an old version of GeoServer?
2.4.2 is the current stable series, which has around one year of
improvements over any 2.2.x release

Are there other tips you can give me, such as changing Tomcat settings, or
other changes in GeoServer configuration?

That's very much dependent on the type of processes you're running, there
is no "one size fits all" response

Cheers
Andrea
