[Geoserver-users] XSD to PostGIS SQL

Hi folks-

I’ve got an XML Schema Description that I’m working with to describe a GML Feature I’d like to represent in a PostGIS database and work with through GeoServer’s WFS.

I know PostGIS has a nice utility – shp2pgsql – for loading shape-files into tables, including table creation and so forth. I was wondering if anyone has any pointers to a similar utility or process whereby I could build a PostGIS table based on an XSD file or an instance GML file of the schema…

Kind Regards,
Victor

Hi Victor,

There is no nice command line utility available in GeoServer or Geotools
for doing this unfortunately. I would recommend you try ogr2ogr. It
supports both gml and postgis and should be able to do the
transformation quite nicely. Although admittedly i have never tried
reading gml with it.

Let us know if that works... if it does it will be the easiest solution.
Past that I can show you to hack up some geotools code to do it as well.
