dear friends:

what I wrote this morning (included below) was inaccurate. I based that
on what the list server sent me when I subscribed back in 1969. things
have changed, and now a new list server program ("majordomo") is in charge.

1. commands to the list server program are now sent in the body of the
email, not in the subject line.
2. you don't need to give your real name in the subscribe command.
(you can give an email address, though).

In the description below items contained in 's are optional. When
providing the item, do not include the 's around it.

User's Forum:
        mail majordomo@isis.cecer.army.mil
(in body of email):
        subscribe grassu [email address]
( - OR - )
        unsubscribe grassu [email address]

Programmer's Forum:
        mail majordomo@isis.cecer.army.mil
(in body of email):
        subscribe grassp [email address]
( - OR - )
        unsubscribe grassp [email address]

--------
meanwhile, more info can be had by sending email to

        majordomo@isis.cecer.army.mil

with the word

        help

in the message body.

grassu and grassp are run from automated list servers.

for those with usenet feed, the grassu and grassp lists are mirrored
as the newsgroups info.grass.user and info.grass.programmer, respectively.

to subscribe to the mailing list server, send mail as follows:

User's Forum:
       mail grassu-request@isis.cecer.army.mil

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

       Subject: subscribe <your name>
       .

Programmer's Forum:
       mail grassp-request@isis.cecer.army.mil

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

       Subject: subscribe <your name>
       .

Note: place your real name where <your name> appears. This way
the list can tell others who you really are instead of just what
your email address is, which the mail server will collect from the
header of your message.

To unsubscribe, send mail messages as follows:

User's Forum:
       mail grassu-request@isis.cecer.army.mil

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG

       Subject: unsubscribe
       .
Programmer's Forum:
       mail grassp-request@isis.cecer.army.mil

       Subject: unsubscribe
