GRASS 4.1 Compilation Problems

I've been trying to compile GRASS 4.1 for the last couple of days, and I've
been having problems. I posted a question to the group yesterday and received
a very helpful reply. Thank you.

I'm working on a Silicon Graphics IRIS Indigo. I get to the compilation
part using GISGEN, and eventually arrive at the following error:

#################################################################
/home/hebrides/steve/grass/grass4.1/man
  make -f OBJ.sgi/make.rules

        sh ./utilities/Nroff "4.1" "Spring 1993" /home/hebrides/steve/grass/grass4.1/src/..
Note: nroff not found on this system
        rm -f /home/hebrides/steve/grass/grass4.1/man/help/*
sh: /bin/rm: arg list too long
*** Error code 1

Stop.
GISGEN failure at STEP: man
#################################################################

Can anyone suggest anything?

It is pretty evident that my shell's rm has limitations. How could I go into
the GISGEN program and modify that line "rm -f /home ..." so that it doen't
erase all the files at once, but maybe a few at a time?

Has anyone else experienced this problem?
