Thanks for your reply.....I finally got the {suncpio.Z} file to
unarchive. I used a syntax very close to what you suggested. The
(cd[destination]; cpio -icdu) part is what confused me, I used:
cat suncpio.Z* | zcat | cpio -icdu
Now I need to finish the rest of the install!

The README.5 file for the GRASS 4.1 Release 5 has the following command for
unpacking the archive file:
zcat fname.Z | (cd [destination]; cpio -icdu)
I think this will give you the results you want.
