GRASS 5.0 beta/Redhat 6.0 - Can't create Location

I am trying to create my first GRASS dataset using the following parameters but GRASS will not create the Location:

Location: airport
Mapset: airshow
Database: /users/smieg/data

GRASS asks me if I "Would you like to create location airport (y/n)?"

I answer <y>.

I get a "(y/n)" prompt as a response.

I answer <y>.

GRASS replies "Location <airport> not created. Hit RETURN -->"

The permissions on /users/smieg/data are 777.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Andy

The GRASS-download file having been downloaded, you have to use gunzip and
tar comand to install file. After that, you should find install guide in
somewhere around here.

Try again,
Taravudh.

How can I determine the resolution of dlg data? I have gotten the
edges in UTM format from the file. Can I derive the "resolution" (as
required to initialize the GRASS location) as well as other parameters from
this information?

I have found some dlg format information on the net. It is widely scattered
though.
