Grass ASCI vector files generated by GPS systems

Hi Kevin,
I'm not sure which kind of GPS system you are using, but Trimble systems
use pfinder software to convert collected files to what is refered to as
grass vector files. There are accually two files with the extensions .VEC and
.INF you move the .VEC file to the dig_ascii subdirectory in your mapset. The
.VEC file is an ASCII file it is not a true grass vector file.
At the grass> prompt enter v.in.ascii, then in response to the request,
enter the name of the file to import (in dig_ascii subdirectory). Then enter
the new name of the vector file that is to be created from the ASCII data.
When back at the grass> prompt enter v.support and then select the 1st option
to build the topology.
If your .SIT file is the an ASCII grass vector file the above procedure
should get your information into a binary vector formate for displaying. Be
sure the file uses the same map projection and grids as the mapset.

   I hope this helps.
