[GRASS-dev] 7.0.5 release planning

Hi all,

as we are planning to release 7.0.5 in August [1] I suggest to start
with "Soft freeze of release branch" [2] today. Martin

I think it would be nice if we could apply the patches from Debian: https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/3042. Has anyone had a look, yet ?

There's also https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/2252 which has been pushed from release to release. I don't really know how to handle the issue. Anyone of the wxGUI developers maybe ?

It would be better to be fixed at the DBMI level. We can argue about
security aspects of this issue, but ability to enter unescaped
apostrophes into text fields is a must for any data entry forms.
The easiest solution would be to implement add_slashes/strip_slashes
[1], although prepared statements with parameter binding is the way to
go [2].

We are lacking a bit of feedback here

Let me suggest to not postpone 7.2.0 forever but have 7.2.1 in mind!
Time to release...

I meant to say: this is 7.0.5 but 7.2.0 is also to be released.

Time to release...

... applies to both 7.0.5 and 7.2.0.

regarding 7.0.5 [1]:

1) [2] waits for backport (@Anna, are you planning to do that?)
2) [3] @Markus, is it really blocker for 7.0.5

Anything else blocking us to release RC1? Thanks, Martin

44 days are counted from soft freeze, RC2 comes 14 days after RC1, so

date -d '2016-08-27 +14 days' +"%Y-%m-%d"
2016-09-10

After re-reading the docs twice I also arrived there

So, yes, RC2 is due.

since RC2 has been released on Sunday 18/9, the final release 7.0.5
should be out ~tomorrow. Any objections? @MarkusM: is there anything
waiting to be backported regarding your recent fixes?

Thanks for collaboration, Martin

Nothing to be backported from my side, v.edit tool=merge works now as expected.

It would be great to see https://trac.osgeo.org/grass/ticket/3057 solved as this seems to be an annoying issue in MS Windows.

Other than that, I'm +1 for releasing.

Except for this issue:

https://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/grass-user/2016-September/075160.html

I'm currently looking at this, but I seem to be able to confirm: remote database access doesn't work correctly. This is definitely a blocker.

I'll write up a bug report once I have a reproducible example.
