[GRASS-dev] [bug #4991] (grass) r.in.gdal support for MrSID included

this bug's URL: http://intevation.de/rt/webrt?serial_num=4991

Subject: r.in.gdal support for MrSID included

Platform: WindowsNT/2000/XP
grass obtained from: CVS
grass binary for platform: Compiled from Sources
GRASS Version: 5.4

Dearest Help!

For the next version of GRASS would it be possible to include a MrSID import option with r.in.gdal.

I understand that the MrSID can be converted to a geotiff and then imported but then you start to loose the effeicency of having the MrSID -by quickly loosing disk space with the conversions to geotiffs.

I am a moderate user, which means I have a low level of understanding how to compile the code necessary to do such a task. Is there a GRASS user conference coming up that would deal with such a matter? It might be worth my time and effort to join.

Thank you for your time and help!!

GRASS ROCKS!

r.in.gdal supports whatever formats GDAL supports. GDAL can be
compiled to support MrSID, however it requires a non-free library.
