[GRASS-dev] FOSS4G 2019: Content for GRASS GIS project talk?

Hi devs,

I plan to submit a talk with GRASS project updates (unless someone else already did it wants to do that) and would like to collect more input here.

I see these highlights:

  • Python 3 support
  • some new features from the 7.8 news page on trac
  • improved test coverage
  • cloud deployments with docker
  • migration to GitHub (note, the vote on this is forthcoming in the PSC list)
  • your suggestions…

The talk will last 20min (if accepted in the community voting).

Thanks for any input,

Markus

since we should have released 7.8 (hopefully from GitHub?) and present its new features, what about a section like ‘looking forward into GRASS 8’ or so? As a way to introduce upcoming/planned new stuff…

I’m thinking loud here, but what if we also launch a poll there with the presentation about a/the new start-up screen?

If you have already drafted something, Markus, maybe you can share in an etherpad or such, so we can suggest/edit or jointly write it up. Just an idea

One more thing:

  • future new website, crowdsourcing campaign, and share the link in the presentation too. It would be great if Nick could have a preview or demo by then

I have added support for PROJ 6 + GDAL 2.5, I think Even will give a talk on PROJ + GDAL as well which we could refer to.

thanks
