this comes from the grass-user list:

Hello,
if i use g.extension -s extension=v.in.ply i receive the error

...

D1/5: grass.script.core.start_command(): g.message -e
message=Unable to create '/usr/lib/grass70/docs/rest':
[Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/lib/grass70/docs/rest'
D1/5: G_set_program_name(): g.message
D2/5: G_file_name(): path =
/media/massarelli/sdb/Mappe/GRASS/Statte/PERMANENT
ERROR: Unable to create '/usr/lib/grass70/docs/rest': [Errno 13] Permission
denied: '/usr/lib/grass70/docs/rest'

I wonder why this rest/ is generated at all...:

I think that the "rest" directory should not be generated at all.
Looks like a bug to me (strange that nobody else reported it so far AFAIK).

My suggestion is to at least comment out the rest/ stuff in
g.extension, for G7.0.1.

Opinions?

Markus

I am unable to reproduce this bug in grass70_release, Martin

anyway the user needs to launch g.extension with sudo (when using -s
flag). Martin

I'd suggest to add subsections in the manual for OS/disto families
since this question comes over and over again.
That sudo is needed here I didn't understand from the manual (and not
being an Ubuntu user).
