Did anyone tried to add cmake build system to grass ?. It can even co-exist with existing autoconf tools.

There is a repository with an exploratory effort to use CMake for GRASS GIS [1] but there is a lack of CMake experts with time which can be dedicated to mirroring current GRASS build.

You are right. The repository is somewhat inactive interms of commit and the cmake part is still unfinished.
