A bit more testing. I found the “render” button. After doing this a forcing a rendering, the animation made it through all 401 maps.

It does not crash and works fine up to image 179 out of 401. After that, the screen is blank with a “no data” message. There is data. Could this be a limit to the number of files that can be parsed (or number of characters)?
