I added the `lambda` parameter in r68301. It is a new feature, so no
backport. There are no other parameters to add (`ew_step` and `ns_step`
are used internally) except for `memory` which I'm not sure if it is
needed (I can add it as well).

Once we decide on the `memory`, can we close it? (I'm not really sure of
all the outcomes of the discussion above.)
