Using the r.to.vect to convert a raster (with multiple values) to a vector
layer gives a new vector map with one polygon covering the extent of the
current region.

Ubuntu 12.10, GRASS 7.0 r54557

I reinstalled GRASS and it works now again, so probably something wrong in
