On OSGEO4W GRASS 6.4.3svn in the map window using digitalisation mode:

The left hand target layer selector is too narrow.

So if there are too many layers with the same name (at the beginning, i.e.
NAME_v1, NAME_v2) it is not possibnle to distinguish these.
