Hi everybody
I've been making some maps these days for a poster presentation and, if I
may, i have a "little" wishlist for some display modules:
- an option for background color would be highly appreciated for legend,
grid labels, north arrow and text in the GUI (d.text has this "bgcolor"
option in command line but it is not available in the GUI)
- also the possibility to add legends for vector maps would be really nice
to have (i saw this was listed for GSoC)...
There's no option for legend background color in g.gui.psmap, either, nor
for adding legends of vector maps representing different categories. I
mean, there's a vector legend option in psmap, but if you are interested
in polygons with different categories and you want to add a legend for
that, there's no way to do it (unless you convert the vector map to a
raster map, which was what I had to do)...
Don't know how much work may be required, but IMHO, this would make
cartographic composition in our favourite GIS a bit more friendly and
customizable.

Note that g.gui.psmap is an incomplete graphical frontend to ps.map. The
module offers many more options.

Not sure I understand exactly what you mean by "legends representing
different categories", but you can check out these
[http://homepages.ulb.ac.be/~mlennert/grass/psmap/index.html example
scripts], notably the 'label' option in the 'varea' definitions.

Yeah, I've also used ps.map, but there's no bgcolor (or similar) option
under colortable. I would also need a logarithmic scale in the raster
legend, but there's no option for that, neither for setting specific tick-
marks (perhaps this should go to a separate ticket??).

This I haven't noticed. Thanks much for the examples and for pointing that
out
