It would be nice if g.list would allow outputting lines longer than 80
characters, and thus in more than two columns of map names.
This could be either in form of a parameter "nb_columns" which would
default to 2 as currently or in form of a "nb_characters" and the number
of columns would be determine automagically from that.
Or even better: g.list detects the width of the terminal and adjusts
automagically...

Sorry, this is wrong: number of columns is already adjusted automatically,
so it would have to be:
