According to the ps.map documentation:

'''vlines'''

        Selects a vector map layer for output and plots lines.

        USAGE: vlines vectormap

             type lines and/or boundaries

             ...

             end

In fact, the valid values for type are "line" and "boundary", not "lines"
and "boundaries" --- the only way I figured that out was by looking at the
source code when my attempt to use "boundaries" didn't work.
