[GRASS-dev] ideas for wxGUI development

Hi all,

from time to time I have a student at the university who can program
some compoment for wxGUI (currently looking for topics for two
students). I got in my mind two ideas:

1) data catalog integrated into wxGUI Layer Manager as a new tab
(simplified version) and as stand-alone application - ie. tool which
enables to rename, copy and move maps across mapsets and locations
(which would require in the most of cases reprojection), this tool
would also allow to import external files including re-projection on
the background, possibly also offer preview of data, in summary a tool
similar to QGIS or ArcGIS catalog

2) interactive reclassification tool, something like ArcGIS reclass
tool [1]. This dialog could be inspired by dialog for setting color
rules interactively which is already available in GRASS.

Do you have any other ideas (could be from easy to hard to implement range:-) ?

Thanks for your comments in advance, Martin

Hi, I’m just doing some histograms and the tools need to be revised. I’m using the one which uses d.histogram but I always have to switch the font manually to something more reasonable and the wxGUI-based histogram does not look like histogram but it is default (context menu in lmgr). matplotlib can help or just d.histogram is enough? I don’t know, I was not thinking about it much, so no exact idea.

Track has many nice ideas on missing features. Some of them are good,
some - need a discussion.

I would also add the idea of developing a solution for merging two (or
more) vector maps. The GUI tool is needed to set-up attribute table
mapping to allow of merging different columns into new ones. Still
currently there is also no C code module part to do the merge itself
based on produced rules.
