I just posted binaries for GRASS 7.0 beta 3, along with new binaries for GRASS 7.1 dev and GRASS 6.4.4 svn. These use the most current frameworks from William Kyngesburye’s site (also posted on the GRASS for Mac site).
They can be downloaded at: http://grassmac.wikidot.com/downloads

as I am preparing instructions for the new semester I noticed that the download page refers to 6.4.3 stable
but the actual release is 6.4.4 which may be confusing to some users
http://grass.osgeo.org/download/software/
Should it be just GRASS 6.4 to make it consistent with GRASS7.0 and the binary would have the latest
release number?
Thank you, Helena

sure - it was simply not updated after the last 6.4.4 release.

Yes, I have changed it to 6.4 (the less places to change in the CMS
the easier it is) and updated a few links.
thanks for catching it,
Markus
As I am going through the class instructions I am wondering whether the text
on the page from which the students download WinGRASS needs updates:
http://grass.osgeo.org/grass70/binary/mswindows/native/
specifically - do we still consider WinGRASS an experimental project? We have been using it in courses for couple years now.
Also, is the binary still built on Windows Vista as indicated in the text?
There is also a link to
http://grasswiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WinGRASS_Current_Status
which mostly includes references to 6.4, so this may be confusing to users installing GRASS7.
If this wiki page is not maintained perhaps the link should be removed.
Finally, the LOCATION that is provided with WinGRASS is called NORTH_CAROLINA
which is different from nc_spm_08 for GRASS6 and nc_spm_08_grass7 for GRASS7.
This is not a huge issue but users who may already have NORTH_CAROLINA from previous installs
and skip downloading it for WinGRASS7 may be surprised that the vector data don't work.
Should the name of this location be changed (preferably to nc_spm_08_grass7) to indicate
that this is a different data set in terms of vector data format?
Thank you, Helena

Right, I have rephrased that and made also other minor updates for
winGRASS 7 in that README.html

I guess not, taken out.

I have turned it into a new landing page:
http://grasswiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WinGRASS_Current_Status
-> http://grasswiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WinGRASS_6_Current_Status (the old
page with some updates)
-> http://grasswiki.osgeo.org/wiki/WinGRASS_7_Current_Status (new)
(@all: Feel free to improve. Hey, it is a Wiki)
Finally, the LOCATION that is provided with WinGRASS is called NORTH_CAROLINA
which is different from nc_spm_08 for GRASS6 and nc_spm_08_grass7 for GRASS7.
You mean in the installer?

I don't see that on
http://grass.osgeo.org/grass70/binary/mswindows/native/#Sample_Data
Please let me/us know where to fix that issue.

I don't see that on
http://grass.osgeo.org/grass70/binary/mswindows/native/#Sample_Data
Please let me/us know where to fix that issue.
It's the installer:
http://trac.osgeo.org/grass/browser/grass/trunk/mswindows/GRASS-Installer.nsi.tmpl#L1034
Here is what is used for NC and Spearfish:
label
file
fancy name
tared dir name
created location name
North Carolina (Wake County) Data Set
nc_spm_08_grass7.tar.gz
North Carolina (Wake County)
nc_spm_08_grass7
North_Carolina
South Dakota (Spearfish County) Data Set
spearfish_grass60data-0.3.tar.gz
South Dakota (Spearfish County)
spearfish60
Spearfish60
The problem is that what is in installer does not fit with what is online,
so it is hard to create instructions for multiple platforms since the name
of location will be different if you download file using installer on MS
Windows and if you download manually on any platform.
And then we are also referring to this sample location in manuals in some
way. I recently stepped into this issue too when writing documentation for
testing framework.

Right. So we should develop a naming scheme here which permits to have
sample locations of different datasets for different GRASS versions.
Maybe we use the one we have for NC or maybe there are better
suggestions. The one for Spearfish is confusing.
