parser.c is the wrong place for this; the changes belong in gui.tcl.
Similarly, adding those flags to the XML as if they are normal flags
is just plain wrong. If they are to go into the XML, the DTD needs to
be extended to accomodate them.

No need. It's the wrong approach; the net effect in an arbitrary
selection of specific cases isn't relevant.
