Hi all.
The work on r.li is going on. You can download the current version from
our site:
http://www.faunalia.it/download/r_li/
Of course, lots has still to be done, but some indices are working.
Please those interested subscribe to the mailing list:
http://www.faunalia.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/r.li
and help us testing and improving it.
All the best.

Paolo,
I just looked at the r.li archive and the README file.
It mentions installation via GEM and that it's currently
untested.
If you want, we can wrap up a GEM extension package
for r.li and possibly some other 3rd party modules
that are currently floating around and fit the landscape analysis theme.
You would then continue development insed the GEM extension
structure which is actually quite convenient. You can still
offer a non-GEM version on your website by simply extracting
the contents of the src directory.
Best,
Benjamin

Hi Bejamin.
My aim is to have r.li within grass (if Markus agree) when at least all
basic indexes are ready and tested (hopefully within a couple of months,
possibly less), so I do not know if GEM wrapping is worth the effort. On
the other hand, if r.li can be useful as a test case, then I'd be glad.
Markus, what is your opinion on this?
All the best.

Since I had added this "GEM" hint, I vote for GEM for the next
weeks/months
This is a good occasion to find a serious GEM candidate. This will
(hopefully) stimulate the completion of GEM and generate docs etc
to get more people interested in using it.

Well, it should not be too much work to put the
r.li source into an extension package.
The thing we have to think about is whether it's
worth putting together an extension for a single
module.
Are there any other modules that are currently
not in the GRASS CVS and would go well together
thematically with r.li?
One more thing I noticed that needs to be checked:
GEM automatically configures an extension's source
code using the standard GRASS configure script.
Is there any possibility this script will fail if
optional dependencies are not satisifed (postgresql,
tcltk etc.)?
