Markus,

using GRASS_REGION or WIND_OVERRIDE allows you to do exactly what you are
doing in the scripts, but without changing WIND and restoring it. That is,
it lets you change the region parameters for the script operation without
physically changing the WIND file.

I didn't closely follow the discussions on GRASS_REGION or WIND_OVERRIDE
(hope the outcome it's now doxygenized).

The scripts are in CVS for improvements. Please (someone) go ahead to
simplify them where appropriate.
