I have created a new installer for grass-6.4.0RC3, built on windows
vista (through the osgeo4w tree). This "just-double-click" installer
creates a stand-alone Grass (no osgeo4w structure).
This is still experimental but I think everything works (minus the old
tcltk gui). After installation there should be two icons on your
desktop. The "grass msys" one is new (created by me) and allows you to
use an msys terminal with grass. Please test and report on both
methods and on all windows versions.

I have another installer for develbranch_6 but I'll wait to hear
positive feedback on this one before I release it. Once a couple
issues with 7.0 get worked out I'll put together that installer too if
it is wanted.

Dear Colin,
congratulations! Good job ...I still didn't try it, but I'm sure that is a
good job!
Did you use the installer script made by me? Did you encountered any
difficulties?
Regards,
Marco

Marco,
Thanks. I could not have done it without your instructions, files, and
scripts. I just modified the paths in your scripts to the osgeo4w
tree, added python, and made a few other adjustments to make an icon
that starts grass through msys so that there would be a usable
terminal.
Markus,
I will create diffs as soon as a few people tell me that the installer works

Colin,
students here are testing the new installer and everything seems to be working fine except for nviz.
I am wondering whether the nviz version with tcltk gui is linked to 3D view instead of wxnviz?
This is on VISTA and it may be problem with local installation or wrong region
(we will check that), but GRASS63 from Marco's installer
runs on this computer fine, including nviz.
I am wondering whether nviz runs for others.
Here is the report about the problem:
"I tried to display one elevation map. Upon clicking 3D view, a window pops up that says "Please
wait, loading data..." It never gets past this point. This action also
prevents closing GRASS. I have to close it through the Windows Task
Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del). It closes with the normal method if I don't try
to bring up nviz. "
thanks a lot,
Helena

Hi Helena,
Yes that is a problem with wingrass at the moment. I should have
mentioned that in some release notes or something. nviz and vdigit are
not working right now. I'm working on it, but I'm not getting very
far.
jef's OSGeo4W build also seems to be missing nviz support and it gives
me the same error.
Hopefully someone can help resolve this soon. Thanks for the testing.

I just looked at Marco's again and realized that he had nviz working

new nviz system.
Perhaps someone (martinl?) can tell us what it will take to get wxNviz
on wingrass.

Right. The last GRASS version I compiled was without wxnviz, because it was
still under development at that time...
