[GRASS-dev] using r.external.out

I tried to use r.external.out but it failed with an error that it could not find the GDAL libraries.

I've got William Kyngesburye's GDAL 1.7 framework installed, and using a very recent (last couple days) version of GRASS 7 from the svn.

Do I need to have GRASS file compatibility with GDAL (i.e., the GRASS GDAL plugin)?
