[GRASS-dev] WinGRASS6.4.3 crashing

I am sorry to report that WinGRASS6.4.3-1 does not run on our lab computers.
After clicking on the GRASS icon the cli window just flashes and the startup page
does not open. We have GRASS6.4.3RC2 running OK on the same machine.

It is worrisome that the final release is more problematic than RC2, but I am wondering whether the problem is on our side - perhaps the GRASS6.4.3RC2 should be uninstalled before installing GRASS6.4.3 final? We have ArcGIS running on these machines and I am aware of the python issues I am just wondering whether RC2 had a better solution for the GRASS startup than the final release.

If there is no easy fix, would it be possible to provide GRASS6.4.3RC2 on the GRASS website for those who cannot run GRASS6.4.3?
Should I submit this a s bug report or is this strictly our problem and everybody
else runs WinGRASS6.4.3 just fine?

Any advice would be appreciated

did you activated to download the needed microsoft runtimes? it's on the
download tab (ms files and sample datasets) during the installation of the
standalone installer.

RC2 has no better solution, but another python version than ArcGIS.

if you have ArcGIS 10.1, then the trouble comes in.

ArcGIS 10.1 and WinGRASS6.4.3 have the same python version (python 2.7.x)

...you are not alone. but there is no easy solution for this python issue, a
ticket is already opened. but IMHO it is more a general question of
operating system design made by MS than a winGRASS problem.

Hello Helena,
can you, please, run GRASS from CMD? Just right click GRASS icon,
choose "properties" and cd in CMD window to specific folder to execute
whatever command you see in "properties" window. This could help to
rule out other problem sources besides Python clash.

Helmut,

thank you very much for quick advice - for one of the students osgeo4w-winGRASS6.4.3 works along ArcGIS10.1
so we will try this out in the lab as well and report back. Hopefully this will solve the problem,
