grass for meteo representation

Hi,

I picked up the paper titled "introduction to GRASS 4" by J. WESTERVELT and I
was wandering the following :

Do you, GRASS specialists and users, think that the GRASS package may be
efficiently used as a basis (with necessary enhancements) for the
representation of meteorological charts ?

Meteorological charts combined :

  . isobare lines
. signs indicating wind, temperature, ...
  . land/sea-lakes limits

All these are icons and vectors rather than raster. GRASS is raster
oriented but it is the only public domain GIS software that I know.

I need your opinion.

Thanks a lot in advance,
fred.

For meteo-maps GRASS should be an ideal tool when using underlying
meteo-images with point/vector datasets overlay.
A very instructive paper combining both types of data appeared in
December issue of MAPPING AWARENESS, not on meteo topics but
on SKI-GIS... ready to use for Grenoble SKI areas too!
But if you are using vector/point data for meteo-mapping exclusively, so
a commercial A/I package should do it (better)...
