for the upcoming FOSS4G conference[1] we have put together a live
dvd[2] with GRASS and a whole bunch of other OSGeo software,
about 40 FOSS geo projects are participating in all.
It would be great if folks could read through the 1-page overview
doc[3] for GRASS (made with reStructured Text and Sphinx if you
wondered), and the 5 minute quickstart tutorial[4].
A full list of project docs on the disc is interesting to look
through as well.[5]
Also if anyone is really keen they can download an ISO of the
DVD[6] and test that it actually works. I've already discovered
that the new QGIS 1.5 grass plugin doesn't like the user not
owning the PERMANENT mapset, even if it's not the one being used.
Test results to the OSGeo wiki[7] and bugs to the osgeo bug
trac'er[8] please (including doc bugs; set component as LiveDVD).

What GRASS version is in there? The OSGeo live contents page says 6.4
rc5, but that can't be true. RC6 would be a shame too, too many bugs
have been fixed by now.

The computational region should be set earlier, also for shaded relief
and watershed analysis. E.g. cut and paste from 3D visualization
"First verify that the computational region is set match the raster
map of interest, “elevation” in the PERMANENT mapset. To do this, load
it into the layer list of the main Layer Manager window, right click
on its name and select “Set computation region from selected map(s)”."

we will ship 6.4.0rc6 as it is the current stable release version
and is what debiangis/ubuntugis provide. it is not so bad IMO,
especially considering this is running on linux not windows.
Anyway that is now frozen. I may put in a nightly WinGrass
build at the last moment for the included binary installers.

6.4.0 is planned to be released soon. Probably we could speed up the
process and ship 6.4.0.

as far as the live dvd goes, it is now frozen, this edition will
ship with rc6. there is no time to test it with anything else or
restart the testing cycle on its behalf. feature freeze was a
couple of weeks ago and it must head to the printers asap.
I hope 6.4.0 will be released by the time the conference starts,
but that is a different matter.
