[GRASS-user] 32 bit OS .. 64 bit OS

Hi Markus,
"progress only in the 64 bit GRASS version".. is not
what is conveyed through this august list,
but this is just a query.
Now that the GRASS6.3 onwards;
do we have both 32 bit and 64 bit (OS) releases..

I was just concerned that we dont have access to 64
bit machines.
Pardon me if I have created any confusion.

Hi Ravi,

where did you get the message "progress only in the
64 bit GRASS version"?
This surprises me, I cannot see such a message in
the mailing list.

Please explain, to minimize confusion.

Markus

AFAIK there are three different things
- GRASS runs on 32bit as well as 64 bit (I use both for example)
- Large file support is partially implemented, but for both 32/64bit
- there is no intention to abandon either 32bit or 64bit but we
  aim at portability

Ravi, are you referring to the fact that there is no generic 32bit
binary GRASS package on GRASS website, but only 64bit?

If so, I don't know how to generate 32bit binaries on a (pure) 64bit
machine as the GRASS server is. A way out would be that a community
member auto-generates 32bit Linux binaries which I then auto-fetch
every week.

I might be able to provide binaries, but not in the next three weeks.

End of August/Beginning of September I could look into it, if noone else has volunteered.

Any suggestions as to what environment is needed, i.e. which versions of the different libraries ?

For GRASS 6.3-CVS snapshots, I suggest to use latest and greatest
versions from
GDAL SVN and PROJ CVS.
