Given a DEM, I would like to simulate the flow of raining water (and possibly the resulting erosion) over time, and for this it would be great to create an animation showing this evolution. I found a few examples of such movies using GRASS data online, but no explanation or tutorial on the best way to actually do it. Could you please just kindly tell me how I should proceed to achieve this?

I am a student of Dr. Mitasova. Her course materials are excellent for learning how to determine water flow and erosion but not how to do the animation. That, however is covered in her book GrassBook http://www.grassbook.org/. Chap 5.
