I just downloaded and installed GRASS (6.2.2RC1) on my linux box (AMD64). However when I try to create a closed boundary (to create an area) I can't it closed, I used the snap function (I deliberately clicked next to the start node and it snapped to this node) but I can't get it working properly. I'm new to GRASS, I've looked in the tutorials but they don't get me any further, so could any explain me how I should be doing it the right way?

v.digit won't snap shut automatically (yet), you have to go to the move
vertex tool, and then move the end to be snapped near what you want to
snap it to. Maybe try moving out of the way by a little bit then back.
it's a long standing wish to make that work without the extra effort.
