[GRASS-user] climate data

Hi,

I am looking for climate data of France, Italy and Spain (temperature,
sunshine, rainfall). When I asked for this info in irc someone said
that I should ask this on this list cause somebody would probably have
it (the name markus was mentioned) or know where to find it. Online
the only thing I found was very global info:

http://www.fao.org/waicent/faoinfo/sustdev/EIdirect/climate/EIsp0068.htm

hope someone can help me. thx!

Hi,

Also check http://www.gaisma.com/en/

It provides info enough for large/medium locations: latitude,
longitude, time zone, local time, sunrise, sunset, dawn and dusk times
(table & graph), sun path diagram, insolation (kWh/m²/day), clearness
(0 - 1), temperature (°C) and wind speed (m/s).

From the website:

"(...)Solar energy and surface meteorology data source: NASA Langley
Research Center Atmospheric Science Data Center
Accurac: Sunrise and sunset calculations are based on the algorithms
shown on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Surface
Radiation Research Branch web site. For latitudes less than 72° north
and south, accuracy is approximately one minute. For latitudes greater
than 72° north or less than 72° south calculations are accurate to
within 10 minutes."

The newLocClim software, available for free for download at the FAO website,
has tons of weather station data in it, AND, some nice routines for
interpolating data to rasters of varying resolutions.

Jerry,

the newLocClim software is rather hard to find - an pointers?

After digging around, I found
ftp://ext-ftp.fao.org/SD/Reserved/Agromet/New_LocClim/
(looks like a MS-Windows executable)

There is a web version of it

http://www.fao.org/sd/locclim/srv/en/locclim.home

And also, they have a document explaining how to access the data
through http protocol here:

http://www.fao.org/sd/locclim/html/en/interoperability.html

Just not sure if it's the so called newLocClim or an old version since
it's called only LocClim

Cheers
Daniel

it's a reduced version of the old LocClim data :frowning:

the differences of the data offerings are explained here:
ftp://ext-ftp.fao.org/SD/Reserved/Agromet/New_LocClim/FAO_software.pdf

further there's Köppen-Geiger climate classification data available,
that seems to be derrived from new_LocClim.

Good morning
Just I'm new user for grass and I like to use the r.sun command for comparation and the problem is when I compile, the programm write the message with wish and tkl4.
