[GRASS-user] Feet-to-Meter Conversion

Are you sure?

Markus,

Nope. I recently read that somewhere (don’t recall just where) and thought
it strange, but accepted it.

I thought 1 US survey foot is exactly 1200/3937 m, appr. 0.3048006 m, or

the other way around 1 meter = 3.280833333 U.S. Survey Feet [0].

That’s what I always thought, too.

Thanks,

Rich

According to the all-knowing wikipedia:

The United States survey foot is defined as exactly 12003937 meter, approximately 0.3048006096 m

0.36 would be a 16% difference … need to find that reference, Rich - it just isn’t right. If you have an old paper quad sheet it specifies the 0.3048 conversion.

Stu,

I just came across the incorrect value within the past few days but have
no recollection where I saw it. It did not seem correct, but was on a page
discussing projections so I shrugged and wrote it down.
