Hi
I just installed GRASS 6.4.3 from the central ubuntu repository and tried to launch grass and got this on the command line:
WELCOME TO GRASS Version 6.4.3 2013
Have at your side all available GRASS tutorials
When working on your location, the following materials
are extremely useful:
A topo map of your area
Current catalog of available computer maps
Check the GRASS webpages for feedback mailinglists and more:
http://www.grass-gis.org
http://grass.osgeo.org
Hit RETURN to continue
Following this link: http://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/72876/grass-algorithms-no-longer-run-in-qgis-sextante I typed
grass --wxpython
grass64 --wypython
but I still can’t get grass to launch without the welcome message on the command line
How can I change this?
Thanks
Best regards
F.

Hi
When I run grass64 -tcltk I still get the “Welcome message”. After I press “enter” it loads the tcktk. The same happens with wxpytho interface.

Yes. But I have to press “Enter” everytime I want to run Grass.
The main problem is that this behaviour interferes with QGIS/Processing (Sextante) and it doesnt allow me to run grass algorithms.
I had a similar problem with Ubuntu 12.04 but when I run grass --wxpython, GRASS started loading wxpython without requiring me to press “Enter” everytime.

The problem was GRASS was not creating the “.grassrc6” file on the Home folder. I copied it a version from another installation and now it works.

fyi you can change the default startup GUI method with the g.gui module.
but explicitly specifying -gui or -wxpython from the command line to
start should record the preference permanently in your ~/.grassrc6 file.
