[GRASS-user] GRASS 7.0 stable installation on Ubuntu 14.04

Hello dear list,

First I would like to congratulate and thank all devs for reaching stable on the 7.0 branch.

I’m having an issue trying to install ‘grass7’ package from the recommended PPA’s as per instructions on 1:

I did have the ‘grass’ package from the ‘ubuntugis-unstable’ PPA, but when adding the ‘grass-stable’ ppa and trying to install ‘grass7’ package, APT prompts to remove all prior grass and grass-* related packages:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:grass/grass-stable
Latest GRASS GIS packages of stable release.

  • grass7: version 7.0

NOTE: These packages are NOT the OFFICIAL stable and tested packages by UBUNTU & DEBIAN GIS team.

0 actualizados, 4 se instalarán, 5 para eliminar y 0 no actualizados.
Necesito descargar 20,0 MB de archivos.
Se utilizarán 1.520 kB de espacio de disco adicional después de esta operación.

Is this normal or expected? According to 1 GRASS 7.0 can be installed in parallel to GRASS 6

So, what would be the best way to have both GRASS 6.4 and GRASS 7.0 installed on Ubuntu 14.04 from repositories?

unfortunately there are some conflicts between these packages. So you
need to choose GRASS 6 or GRASS 7 on this platform. Martin
