Dear GRASS users!
GRASS has been selected as one of the projects to be supported by this
years
Season of Usability: http://season.openusability.org/
This means that we will get a review of the GRASS workflow and GUIs by
approved and internationally well known usability experts.
We will soon get in touch with our mentor.
It would be very helpful for us if you could enter you own view of the
current usability show stoppers and areas of improvement here:
Since I am not a developer nor a everyday user of GRASS I'd like to
addess especially to:
- teachers
- new GRASS users
Please tell us your perceptions!
Thanks in advance & we'll keep you posted.
Kind regards,
Timmie
P.S. Although I am writing a crosspost I think we should keep the main
discussion on this thread at the GRASS users list.
More development related things will be sent to the devel list.
Can we make sure to get a usability review for the nearly complete NEW GUI in wxPython as well as the existing GUI in TclTk? Also, we need to make sure that this is done on the current SVN trunk version rather than older versions that may be in circulation but do not reflect the current direction of the GUI as well.

Why for the TclTk GUI? Do you/we really want/mind to spend energy on that
beyond bug fixes? Personally I'd consider leaving it "as-is" and rather
focus our efforts on code with a future. Minor improvements, sure.... but
I don't see the point in a major rewrite at this stage.

sure.
Another thought is to have them look at the website structure to get
suggestions on the hierarchical design of the planned replacement.

I agree. However, I'm not sure how much longer the TclTk GUI will be with us (though hopefully not much longer). If there is any glaring issue that is relatively easy to fix, I guess we can consider it. But you are right. We should focus on the new GUI.

Is this urgent?
I would like to sum-up my view on GRASS and give my feedback as a new
user.
