[GRASS-user] How to use g.gui.animation with base map

Hi community,

I have a strds (space time raster data set) of precipitation and I
would like to create an animation of it with above an static map (in
the case, a DEM - digital elevation model) so that the cells with 0
precipitation are set as transparent.

In the manual, it is said that "each animation can consist of base map
layer(s) and (multiple) series", so in my understanding I should be
able to set my DEM as my base layer and my precipitation strds as the
animated one in the composition. However, I was not able to do so.

So the question is: how to animate an strds with a static base map?
(any solution, be it in the GUI interface or via command, would help a lot!)

Hello Andre,

I tried with an elevation map and a strds from the nc climate location [0]. I added the elevation map and then the strds and set opacity to 50% to the latter and then hit play. It works just fine. I can see the elevation map below. It is just a matter of ordering the layers AFAIU (see the arrows in the GUI). I do not have a strds with gaps here to test though…

Hi Veronica,

thank you very much for your time on checking it.
Shame on me: I was trying to add an static map to the animation using
the "Add spate-time dataset or series of map layers" button instead of
using the "Add raster map layer" that is just on the right of it. My
eyes just did not see it.
Got to make it work then via the interface GUI.
