[GRASS-user] Importing .e00 file

Hi

System:

SuSE Linux 10.2
grass 6.2
e00compr-1.0.0
avce00-2.0.0

I want to import an .e00 file, but I get the following error message:

> v.in.e00 -v file=aveanrfl.e00 type=area vect=test
An error may appear next which will be ignored...
E00 Compressed ASCII found. Will uncompress first...
...converted to Arc Coverage in current directory
Importing areas...
ERROR: Cannot open data source: aveanrfl
An error occurred. Stop.

I get the same area message if I omit the extension .e00 from file=aveanrfl.e00

I attach the first lines of the .e00 file:

Looks like it is a raster/GRID, and not vector?

I hope someone else has a better solution that doesnt involve using arcCatalog. If you dont have ArcCatalog, someone else will have to provide a solution for you.

the e00’s pre-date arcMap, and apparently from what I have experienced, even though the .e00 are ASCII interchange files, they are not the same as an “ESRI ASCII Raster file” produced by ArcCatalog within ArcMap. (arc/info workstation .e00 ascii file <> arcMap .txt ascii file)

I cant see how to import a raster .e00 file directly. I would be grateful to hear from someone how to do this. I checked the GDAL page also, but could not find the answer.

what will work is this:
Use ArcCatalog (or arc/info workstation) to import the .e00 file to an ESRI GRID.
Use ArcToolBox, under “Conversion Tools”, then “From Raster”, then “Raster to ASCII” dialog.
Input the raster, Input the output ASCII raster file in the dialog box. This will output a .txt file.
this ASCII text file can be imported using the r.in.arc (File–>Import–>Raster Map–>ESRI Arc/Info ASCII grid)

I might agree with that. So I should use m.in.e00 - but as far as I have
seen, it is not available for grass 6.2. Is there another way of
importing them

Thanks for your help.
I expectged it to be problematic. What I will do: install grass 5.4.2 as
well and import to a format which can be read from both.

Thanks,

Rainer

Maybe it would be possible to take out
cvsgrass53/src/misc/m.in.e00/raster.c
and add it to r.in.bin?

I remember we can modify number of available monitors and then recompile - so more than 7 users can use grass at the same time. Anyone can remind me which files we need to modify? Thanks.

There is no limit to the number of concurrent users for any version of
GRASS released within the last few years. Every user gets their own
set of monitors.

If you want to increase the number of monitors available to each user,
modify $GISBASE/etc/monitorcap.
