[GRASS-user] Impossible to install GRASS - problem with libgdal1

Following my previous message...

I found the package libgdal1 but for installing it I have to uninstall libgdal1h and also qgis... I did it and then tried to install qgis again but synaptic had to uninstal grass and libgdal1...

It now impossible to work with GRASS and Qgis simultanuously.

Any idea?

Thanks

Objet : [GRASS-user] Impossible to install GRASS

Hello,

I recently tried to re-install GRASS because after my last update of GRASS and Qgis (about 2 weeks ago) the GRASS plugin in Qgis was no more available.

So, I first update GRASS and Qgis but there was a problem with the libgdal1. I've update all the packages with apt-get update (I'm on linux mint) and I received the following messaege :

$ W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-testing/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_ubuntugis_ubuntugis-testing_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-amd64_Packages)
$ W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-testing/ubuntu/ precise/main i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/ppa.launchpad.net_ubuntugis_ubuntugis-testing_ubuntu_dists_precise_main_binary-i386_Packages)
$ W: Vous pouvez lancer « apt-get update » pour corriger ces problèmes.

Then, I tried to reinstall QGis and GRASS. Qqis is working fine now. But GRASS with the command $ sudo apt-get install grass

I become the following error message. It is in French but it says that some packages can not be installed and that there is a problem with the dependence libgdal1(>=1.8.0)

$ grass : Dépend: libgdal1 (>= 1.8.0) mais ne sera pas installé
$ E: Impossible de corriger les problèmes, des paquets défectueux sont en mode « garder en l'état ».

Does someone knows what is the problem?

Thanks

Lucien

Hi Lucien,

to uninstal grass and libgdal1...

It now impossible to work with GRASS and Qgis simultanuously.

I'd suggest to check in with the UbuntuGIS mailing list, since they handle
the packaging for that PPA:
http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu

The combination is known to work on 12.04. (as of ~last week)

good luck,
Hamish

ps- look in /etc/apt/sources.list and /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ for the
duplicate entry.

For thoose you had the same problem.

I solved it like this:
- uninstall Qgis and GRASS
- remove all the repository for the installation of qgis and GRASS
- reload the repository $ sudo apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable
- reinstall qgis and GRASS

it is working fine!

thanks for the all-clear report.

I suspect it might be some newer package that should have a "Conflicts"
setting with some older generation package, which only becomes an issue
if the tide rises unevenly.. ? shrug
