IMHO It's good idea (in spite of postgres is my main database in grass)
But I have little sugestion (for all). If some changes like this will be made (i.e which require new or addational behavior during compilation cvs please inform about it on "grass-user"

I believed I cc:'d grass-user on the thread, but it was generally
discussed last.
Never take default options for granted with any software; especially
software in a development cycle. I always setup a shell script that
runs 'configure' with the options I want spelled out so there is no
confusion.
If you require stability and predictability, you shouldn't be using
6.3.x.
