Hi Pedro
There is also r.seg GRASS module for doing variational segmentation (http://www.ing.unitn.it/~grass/). Some information about it can be found in http://download.osgeo.org/osgeo/foss4g/2009/SPREP/2Thu/Parkside%20GO4/1500/Thu%20G04%201545%20Zatelli.pdf
Regards,
Aleksander
Hi Nikos
Thanks for your link. But besides that one, has anyone developed/tried a segmentation algorithm from R or any other tool?
Thanks
Pedro

There is also r.seg GRASS module for doing variational segmentation

Great piece (hidden so long... :-p). I wonder why there is no reference about
it in GRASS AddOns [1] or else in the wiki.

I don't risk by that my head... being hunted from people that I don't know
because I took the liberty to "do it" huh?

(Of course I will but honestly, I've never heard of r.seg before!)

Hi there,
These days I followed the thread of this email. I didn’t know r.seg, and I very interested in testing. I downloaded the module from the web site (http://www.ing.unitn.it/~grass/), and compiled correctly but I get an error when I tried to install it (make install). Has anyone had this problem?

You likely need to indicate where the source code is if you didn't
move r.seg into the raster directory of the GRASS source code.
For example:
make MODULE_TOPDIR=$HOME/grass64-src/
make MODULE_TOPDIR=$HOME/grass64-src/ install

The directory was correctly located, the problem was that the object code (directory OBJ-i686-pc-linux) had been created in r.seg/src/ not in r.seg, so I had to run make install on r.seg/src/ . Now it seems properly installed.
Thanks
