I just tried to display the spearfish60 aspect raster image, but it looks heavily pixellated. What could the problem be?

You region settings says:
EW Res: 149.++
NS Res: 150.++
Set g.region to resolution of the layer
g.region rast=aspect -p

You need to set the current region to the current map (which is aspect in your
case). There is a button for that, see the attachment.
