What's the right way to use r.what to query multiple maps?

This seems an old problem:

Query in the TclTk GUI works on the map selected in the layer manager. It
does not work with multiple maps.

Michael,

It's a missing feauture, compared to d.what.rast. I often find it
usefull to be able to query multiple layers with one mouse click on an
X monitor.

Do you think it could, someday, be implemented in gis.m? Is it possible
to pass the list of rasters displayed on the canvas to r.what, in the
gis.m query raster tool?

Maciek

It would be nice, but a lot of work. It would take a major rewrite of the
raster layer code because of the way the layer information is gathered.

However, the new wxPython GUI DOES do multi-layer querying automatically. In
fact, it queries both rasters and vectors at the same time.
