I'm about to suggest that we scrap the spin box and return to a simple
text box (rather than the long pull-down) and have it validate only values
1-60.

  I concur: it's easier to keep the hands on the keyboard, tab between
widgets, and type the desired zone number. I don't recall the spin control
needing a pull-down menu, just minimum, maximum and increment values. (I've
not looked at that code since I got it running correctly.)

   No. I'm agreeing with you that a simple text box would work better and
take less time to implement than would figuring out why the spin control is
stuck.
