Hola Vero
Thank you for your answer. I use openSUSE Tumbleweed (rolling release, updates very frequently). I have the following installation:
System Info
GRASS version: 7.8.6
Code revision: exported
Build date: 2021-10-13
Build platform: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu
GDAL: 3.3.2
PROJ: 8.1.0
GEOS: 3.9.1
SQLite: 3.36.0
Python: 3.8.12
wxPython: 4.1.1
Platform: Linux-5.14.9-1-default-x86_64-with-glibc2.34
When resizing I see this kind of messages on the terminal:
(gis_set.py:22469): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:02:24.924: Negative content height -5 (allocation 5, extents 5x5) while allocating gadget (node button, owner GtkButton)
(gis_set.py:22469): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:02:24.924: Negative content height -5 (allocation 5, extents 5x5) while allocating gadget (node button, owner GtkButton)
(gis_set.py:22469): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:02:24.924: Negative content height -5 (allocation 5, extents 5x5) while allocating gadget (node button, owner GtkButton)
(gis_set.py:22469): Gtk-WARNING **: 09:02:25.188: Negative content height -2 (allocation 8, extents 5x5) while allocating gadget (node button, owner GtkButton)
(gis_set.py:22469): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 09:02:25.245: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion ‘size >= 0’ failed in GtkScrollbar
(gis_set.py:22469): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 09:02:25.289: gtk_box_gadget_distribute: assertion ‘size >= 0’ failed in GtkScrollbar
To me this is not too serious, I have seen this before when the startup screen had the right size. I believe that if other users are not experiencing this may be it is not worth pursuing a fix at all, as GRASS 8 does not have this startup screen anymore.

Hola Hernán,
Which OS do you use and which version of wxpython? I compiled the release branch today and here, in my fedora 34 with Python 3.9.7 and wxPython 4.0.7, I don’t have that issue. Maybe worth a bug report?
best,
Vero

Dear grassers
I compiled and installed 7.8.6 yesterday. Everything seemed to go well and GRASS works as good as ever. However, a small nuisance that I am experiencing is that the startup menu window shows up sort of “minimized”, instead of the classical larger size showing the locations and mapsets from which to choose:
![]()
I have to manually increase its size to what formally was a normal size in order to see which location and mapset to choose:
![]()
This is not a problem, just a minor nuisance. And perhaps GRASS is not even involved in this but rather something else related with wxPython etc.
Has anyone experienced this before? Does someone has any idea on how to overcome this?
Thanks in advance
Hernán
