a few days ago, I wrote a message to the german GRASS List. I have trouble by startung QGIS using Linux 9.04. I've installed QGIS first some month ago, and the programm worked without any problems. But now, when I start there is the Startup Windows but then it shut down. The Terminal gives the error message: Segemtation fault.
Because of this error I updated the former Version 1.0.xx to the unstable 1.3.0 from this Launchpad sources:
But the error message is still the same as before. So I think it's not really a problem of the installed version. Do somebody know this and can give some advice to solve it?

if you update from the UbuntuGIS repository make sure you update GDAL
and GRASS from there as well.
what does this say:
$ dpkg -l grass qgis 'libgdal*'
I appologize to join to this discuss, but I have the same problem as Benedikt.
Since I have been changed to linux mint(ubuntu 9.04) from SUSE 11.1 I can not start qgis. (either 1.2 nor 1.3)
the Qgis is stopping with the same segmentation error immediatelly after the Python modules are loading into
the dpkg list which you have asking for in my system is the following:

I would tell him to install the lastest qgis package, which is probably
build against the right dependencies: qgis - 1.3.0-1~jaunty3

Thanks for your help. But I not really know what have to do next.
Do I have to type this term in the Terminal??
$ dpkg -l grass qgis 'libgdal*'
yes, to see what versions of the packages you have installed.
pull the terminal wide enough so that the full version number shows.
to follow Alan's advice, try upgrading and see if there are any
new packages waiting in the UbuntuGIS repository.
all three need to be updated & in sync. You can't use a latest
QGIS with an older GDAL library. The ABI will have changed and
the result will be a segfault.
as this is not a GRASS matter it should continue on the
UbuntuGIS mailing list: http://lists.osgeo.org
