What exactly would the process you describe result in, i.e. do you have any
examples of voronoi tesselations derived from polygons? If the polygons are
small-ish (relative to the exent of your analysis), then voronoi tesselations
of the polygon centroids might be useful. Someone might have a better answer
if the problem is more completely described, and even better if you provide a
workable example from one of the sample data sets (e.g. spearfish).
