I’m planning to write an extension for the GRASS-MODFLOW module I developed about a year ago. Can anyone tell me if the wxPython GUI is GRASS’ future?

yes (more or less;-), the wxPython GUI is planned to be default for
GRASS 6.4/7.x. Now part of trunk
