Another thing is, that you have to re-click the zoom button to continue
zooming; I rather liked the "zoom mode", where you could keep on zooming and
unzooming until you got it right.

the old-style zoom function has admittedly advantages but the new-stlye zoom is
more frequently used in other GIS/RS software packages hence users are
accustomed to it. I would let the user decide which zoom-style to use (if it is
possible in the configure menu), regards, Martin

I agree with all the sentiments below. The new style zoom is easier to
implement, but the old one is doable.
The best thing would be to do what Martin suggests and have a
configuration/settings panel. Things that could set on the panel include
zooming, panning, and fonts at least. There is already a configuration menu
where such a panel could be called.
Anyone want to make one?
